Austrian general. Held commands during the First and Second Wars of Italian Independence (1848; 1859) and the Hungarian War of Independence (1849); governor of Hungary (1860), then commander of the Austrian army in Lombardy-Venetia, Carinthia, Carniola, the Tyrol, and the Adriatic Küstenlande (coastal lands); member of the upper house of the Reichsrat (1861–1881); commander-in-chief of the Northern Army during the Austro-Prussian War (1866).
