British diplomat. Attaché at Berlin (1860) and Vienna (1861); secretary of legation at Vienna (1864), Washington (1865), Copenhagen (1869), Vienna (1869), Athens (1870), Paris (1873), and Buenos Aires (1883); consul-general at Lima (1884–1885; also acting chargé d’affaires) and for Hungary at Budapest (1885–1888); secretary of embassy at Madrid (1888–1892) and Vienna (1892-1896); envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary at Buenos Aires (1896–1902; also accredited to Paraguay) and Stockholm (1902–1904).
