Behr, Wilhelm Josef (1775-1851),
liberal politician. 1799-1821 professor of public law at the university of Würzburg; 1819 represented the university in the first chamber of the Bavarian Landtag. 1821 elected mayor of Würzburg for life. 1832 dismissed from office. In 1836 he was sentenced to imprisonment for an unspecified period of time for repeated attempts to commit high treason and lese-majeste; in 1839 he was released on condition that he be detained in Passau, then Regensburg; in 1848 he was permitted to return to Würzburg; he was the deputy for Kronach in the Frankfurt national assembly.
